OutlawArchive.com added to series of popular archives
Access more than one million newspaper pages on free archives sponsored by NewspaperARCHIVE.com
NewspaperARCHIVE.com has revolutionized the world of research with more than one million newspaper pages available online through free archives. These archives cover more than 20 specific topics that have affected our history, ranging from the Holocaust to the Winter Olympics and now outlaws.
Chris Gill, president of Heritage Microfilm, had the original vision of offering free, easily searchable archives. Gill's original idea was to create an archive containing newspaper pages on one of the most famous outlaws in American history, Billy the Kid. Now, OutlawArchive.com, the newest free archive, allows access to more than 50,000 historical newspaper pages describing Billy the Kid and many other legendary outlaws.
"For American history buffs and historic true crime fans, especially that generous percentage furiously interested in outlaws, it's Christmas in June," said Laura James, author of the CLEWS Blog. "The best way to know them is to see them as the people of their time saw them. Many of these famous outlaws had one thing in common: they were so good at their craft - crime - that their careers lasted for years. And a lot of newspapers devoted barrels of ink to their exploits."
OutlawArchive.com retells the stories of outlaws like Jesse James, Butch Cassidy and even modern outlaws like Baby Face Nelson by using newspaper articles that would be difficult to find anywhere else on the web. Whether these outlaws are viewed as criminals or freedom fighters, these legendary figures have managed to capture American interest.
NewspaperARCHIVE.com introduced its first free archive in January with MartinLutherKingJrArchive.com. Each archive contains general information on the topic, a historical timeline, additional resources on the web, and between 15,000 and 50,000 newspaper articles that are specific to the archive's topic and easily searchable by keyword or date.
Researchers interested in finding more information about outlaws in America or any of the other free archives can also go to NewspaperARCHIVE.com, where there are currently more than 37 million newspaper pages online with one new page added every second. Heritage Microfilm of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, launched NewspaperARCHIVE.com, the largest newspaper database available online, in 1999.
